~ Some Background about our Orange & Fawn Dwarfs ~

Thank you for your interest in the Orange and Fawn varieties. These colors are still considered rather rare. We have worked locally with consistent line breeding and culling to achieve animals that we feel exemplify this variety. Ted has been breeding Orange and Fawn for years; too many to count, whereas I started this variety in 1997. I dedicate the majority of my 100 hole-rabbitry to this variety. Both of us are charter breeders with the ANDRC. We both have achieved local and national wins, and support the show hobby in many ways. Ted is currently District 2 Director for ANDRC and I serve as NYR&CBA Outreach Chairperson . I have worked very hard to register most of my rabbits with ARBA. Nearly half of my working stock are Grand Champions. Many others have legs. Click this link to view a list of core stock used in my breeding program.

We are located in upstate New York in the Syracuse vicinity. Barb's foundation stock came out of California via Michigan. We both had completely separate lines for a number of years. This actually worked to our benefit as it forced us into friendly competition on a local level. The results were improvements in both our herds.

It wasn't until 2002 that both Ted and I decided to team up and bought an orange buck by the name of Smith's "GO". This was from Gary and Susan Smith (NC). This buck became key to our orange and fawn breeding program. GO quickly became a Grand Champion and accumulated 21 legs within a couple of show seasons. He has improved both orange and fawn in so many ways. . . . we consider him as part of our "Orange Hall of Fame" now. Thank you again Gary and Susan for parting with this animal!

Beringer is a newer addition to our breeding program. He was purchased from Terri Gegenfurtner of Bellflower Bunnies prior to 2006 Fall Convention. His aim was to add a more open ear to our program. He is the Basketball star in our ad. Since the time of purchase, Beringer has accumulated at least 6 legs and his Grand Champion Certification is now pending. His offspring are showing improvement in a number of areas.

~ Purchasing our Netherland Dwarfs ~

Most stock for Nationals or Convention is pre-sold and many times there is a wait list. To hold stock for convention, a deposit may be required. We do ship out of Syracuse. Please be aware of airline weather restrictions that may limit the months of shipping. We strongly encourage purchasing a minimum of 4 rabbits (ideally 6) for shipping as the price is by weight. (i.e. It cost the same to ship 1 or 4 or 6. ) Prices for convention stock range from $75 to $150 with exceptional animals priced higher. Lower end brood-type stock is generally $50 to $75. Pets ranges from $20 to $40.

Please contact Barbara Downing SnowShoeBunny@Yahoo.com regarding available stock and delivery options.

~ Special Orange Fuzzy Netherland Dwarfs ~

I had heard that breeders in Europe used wool breeds crossed to Netherland Dwarfs to increase fur density. However I had never come across the wool gene in all my years of breeding dwarfs. . . .until recently. I started producing these Orange Fuzzies when the Beringer line was introduced. I am averaging 1 or 2 out of about every 35 born. Click link below to view the fuzzies I have bred and sold.

~ Winter 2006/2007 ~

As promised, we had some nice stock to offer for Sale last Fall. Beringer gave us a better ear on his first generation of offspring. Although he was throwing a bit of smut on some coats, the results were worth the struggle through that color fault. Most sold were delivered to ARBA Convention in Texas.
